OPEN SESSIONS
OBRA Open Sessions are public research laboratories, often led in collaboration with an invited practitioner. They are an opportunity for participants to be part of a laboratory process and exchange ideas as OBRA test a new area of practice, experiment with a new approach to writing and / or to explore a new collaboration.
Past Open Sessions have had considerable impact upon the company’s artistic development as OBRA have explored overlapping and/or contradictory practices with other researchers, allowing all involved to take artistic risks. The working methodologies for new creative collaborations with OBRA’s artistic associates Eilon Morris and Fabian Wixe were developed via open sessions, as were the initial encounters with writer Lucy Burnett and filmmaker Matt Smith. These creative partnerships continue to enrich OBRA’s creative practice, and the discoveries made during the sessions are realised in their performances and audiovisual creations.
