Each summer since 2013, OBRA has led a one week theatre devising and performance workshop for young people. The participants are introduced to OBRA’s training approach and creative process in order to create a new performance piece, presented at the end of the residency. Through a collaborative and participative approach, all texts and physical actions are developed in relation to a theme. These workshops often include youths from both the UK and France and allow the group to develop as a creative team whilst also exchanging their culture and language. Themes have included; Metamorphosis, Migration, Dream and Reality, Space (in partnership with the Fleurance Astronomy Festival), Presence and Memory, and Deep Time (in partnership with the Gers municipal archives).

 

Through a process that places participation at the heart of the creative practice, the performance is a way to allow the young performers to discuss their current concerns, in relation to one another and within a broader global context.
